About
Independent Expertise at the Intersection of Medicine and Artificial Intelligence
Medical AI Expert Group provides independent expert witness and litigation consulting services for legal matters involving artificial intelligence in clinical and healthcare settings.
Our Mission
Rigorous, Independent Analysis
The integration of artificial intelligence into clinical practice has introduced a new category of legal and regulatory complexity. Algorithmic decision-support tools, AI-enabled diagnosis, and machine learning systems embedded in care pathways can fail in ways that are technically subtle, clinically consequential, and difficult to evaluate without specialised knowledge.
Medical AI Expert Group was established to meet this need. We provide courts, counsel, and institutional clients with rigorous, independent analysis of AI-related failures in healthcare — grounded in both clinical medicine and the technical realities of how these systems are designed, validated, and deployed.
Our Approach
Methodology
01
Independence
We maintain strict independence from healthcare technology vendors, AI developers, and institutional providers. Our analysis is governed solely by the evidence and the applicable standards of care.
02
Multidisciplinary Perspective
Complex AI-related matters rarely fall within a single discipline. Our work draws on clinical medicine, biomedical informatics, regulatory science, and healthcare systems expertise to provide analysis that reflects the full scope of the matter.
03
Proportionate Scope
We calibrate the depth and breadth of our engagement to the complexity of the matter. Preliminary assessments are focused and efficient; full expert witness engagements are thorough and defensible.
04
Clarity of Communication
Technical findings must be communicated in terms that are accessible to judges, juries, and counsel without sacrificing accuracy. We place particular emphasis on clear, precise written and oral communication.
Areas of Expertise
Clinical and Technical Scope
AI-Assisted Diagnosis
Radiology AI, pathology AI, and other diagnostic decision-support systems — including failure mode analysis, validation methodology, and clinical integration standards.
Clinical Decision Support
AI-driven treatment recommendation, risk stratification, and early warning systems — including algorithmic bias, population generalisation, and clinical workflow integration.
AI-Enabled Medical Devices
Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) and AI/ML-based devices regulated under FDA and international frameworks — including 510(k), De Novo, and PMA pathways.
AI Performance and Patient Safety
Post-market surveillance, real-world performance monitoring, adverse event analysis, and the relationship between AI system failure and patient harm.
Healthcare AI Implementation
Institutional procurement, deployment governance, staff training obligations, and the standards applicable to healthcare organisations adopting AI systems.
Credentials
Qualifications and Experience
Our consultants hold advanced clinical and academic qualifications in medicine, biomedical informatics, and health technology assessment. Members of the group have contributed to peer-reviewed research in clinical AI, participated in regulatory and standards-setting processes, and held senior clinical and academic appointments.
Expert witness engagements are accepted selectively, with attention to subject-matter fit, conflict of interest, and the capacity to provide thorough, timely analysis. We do not accept engagements in which we cannot provide genuinely independent opinion.
